Konkani Cricket WORLD CUP on 22nd July 2006
Here we go again. It was a great challenge for the organizers this year since the popular Cricket event held last year was a big success.
There were a number of things to be done in a short span of time like booking the cricket pitch, planning the ladies events & organizing the prizes but the enthusiasm of the organizers made things look easy.
The big day finally arrived & reaching the ground was a mystery for the participants due to the incorrect address/post code given in the invitation, well the organizers sure need to work on their directions & map reading skills :). This however worked out well because the particpants didn't need to warm up :) when they reached the ground and were all set to have a go at the game & unleash their hidden talent.
Everybody including the organizers arrived at the stipulated IST except some who didn't even respect the IST & came as per the PST (Pacific Standard Time), c'mon: you know what I mean. Needless to say, it runs in our blood :).
There were 2 Teams in Cricket led by Ananth & Raj.Inspite of a lot of efforts by Raj's team, Ananth's team was well equipped with the right skills & talent with a very good team-work which led them to victory in all the matches in the best of three series.
Ananth was clearly the Man-Of-the-Series with a splendid batting & bowling display. There were some great all-round performances by Achal, Naresh & Harry in the winning team.
The Runner-up team had a lot of stars (?) like Shaunak, Raj, Damodar & Sunil but these stars did not shine when required.
The events for ladies & kids comprised of "Dog & The Bone" & "Dodge Ball" with 2 teams competing against each other. The teams were led by Sanjana & Aditya. Sanjana's team with the likes of Nisha, Sapna & others was the winning team in both the events. The Runner-up team led by Aditya included Sandhya, Akshata, Sujata to name a few. These events became very popular & caught everyone's attention.
As in last year's cricket event, the Rain God had a go at the Cricket but again the enthusiam & weather within the participants did not let the spark of the event die down. Overall, everybody went home with a warm smile & lot of great memorable experiences to share.
Do check out the photos.
